Melanie Lynskey
Melanie Jayne Lynskey was born on May 16, 1977, in New Zealand. Her portrayals of complex women, and her ability to speak American dialects make her a popular choice for independent film work. Lynskey is the winner of two Critics' Choice Awards, a HCA Award, a Gracie and a New Zealand Film Award, an Hollywood Film Award, and an Sundance Special Jury Award, along with Gotham, Satellite, Saturn, Golden Nymph, Independent Spirit, Screen Actors Guild, and Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
Lynskey made her debut on screen in Heavenly Creatures (1994), getting a New Zealand Film Award for her portrayal of teenage murderess Pauline Parker. She later appeared in various international productions like Ever After (1998), Detroit Rock City, but I'm not a fan, The Cherry Orchard (1999), Coyote Ugly (2001), Snakeskin (2001), Shooters, Abandon, Sweet Home Alabama (all 2002). Lynskey was an established character actor following her she moved to the United States. She is most famous for her performances in a variety of big and small-budget films which include Shattered Glass (2003) and Flags of Our Fathers (2006).
Lynskey's starring role in Hello I Must Be Going as an emotionally depressed divorcee earned her the attention of critics in 2012 and received a Gotham Award nomination. This was a pivotal point in the career of Lynskey. The roles she played in the following films: The Big Ask (2013) and Happy Christmas, We’ll Never Have Paris (all 2014), The Intervention (all 2016), Rainbow Time, Little Boxes (2016), I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore (both 2017), Sadie (2018) and Lady of the Manor (2021) and established her standing as a prominent figure within the American independent film industry.
